error with configure Seq 4

[lnx-noob]

i managed to get gcc3 and qt 2.3.2 on my mandrake 8.1
when i come to the part of ./configure building showeq i see the following errors:

checking for gdImageCreate in -lgd... (cached) no
./configure: havegd: command not found
checking for gdImagePng in -lgd... (cached) no

do i miss a RPM that is needed?
if i continue with make, showeq gets compiled and runs.

gd-1.8.4-4
gd-devel-1.8.4-4

(not sure if its needed tho, maybe the CGI tools, but i have not yet looked at those)
