Just got Seq setup last night, and have worked all day on it - but it just seems to sit there, nothing happening.

I read some other posts about this problem, but AM I the only one with dial-up that uses Seq?

Will this even work with dial-up? All the broadband ppl have routers/gateway devices on the frontend (CPE) side of their networks - we dial-up ppl have a phone line between our modems and the ISP. I have a 5-port Linksys hub, but how good will it actually do?

I am completely open to suggestions at this point - and before you say "go buy dsl or cable" - I live in the sticks - we don't and won't get it.

try udpecho or use a router that does dialup (ipcop and freesco both do dial up). or put the modem in your linux box.

Searching for udpecho revealed:

First step would be to get used to the linux OS, http://www.linux.org, http://www.linuxdocs.org and several other splendid general Linux information sites can be of assistance.

For the modem in the Linux-box problem, checkout http://www.linuxdocs.oorg or the HOWTO section of http://www.linux.org/docs/index.html (specifically the modem-HOWTO at http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/Modem-HOWTO.html

Your setup should be such, that the Linux box can "see" the network traffic send to your EQ box. So with a dial-up modem there's several options:

1. Internet -> Linux box with INTERNAL Modem / seq / routing / 1 NIC -> 1 NIC / Window$ / EQ

or

2. Internet -> Window$ box with INTERNAL Modem / EQ / routing & UDPecho / 1 NIC -> 1 NIC / Linux box / seq

or

3a. Internet -> Window$ or Linux box with INTERNAL Modem / routing 1 NIC -> hub -> Window$ EQ & Linux Seq.

or

3b. Internet -> router with modem option + EXTERNAL Modem (or build in, wouldn't recommend those tho) -> hub -> Window$ EQ & Linux Seq.

I suggest to go for option number one or if you have some cash to spend option number 3a or 3b (most routers that have External dialup modem support also can be used for Cable and ADSL modems, so if you'll ever upgrade in the future, you can reuse it)

Setting up option 1 should be a piece of cake after you found and read the appropriate documentation (read completely, don't use them as you'd use your ordinary vaccuumcleaner documentation)

Setting up option number 2 will be more difficult or not, your milleage may vary: http://winseq.webhop.org/

btw:

I have a 5-port Linksys hub,

Chances are high this is NOT a hub, but a switching hub (hence a switch), do a search on this board on the word linksys
