Anyone tried this yet? I'll be installing it on my secondary laptop hard drive - figured I'd give it a whirl see if it changes anything.
But man, once you get Gentoo working, at least on my laptop, it sure does blow away Redhat and Debian away for speed...whoooo

I haven't tried it, but I'm sure that you wouldn't have a problem with it. The way you had to do it with 1.2 was basically bootstrap with Gcc 2.9x and then grab 3.1 and redo everything. If they put 3.1 in as the default, that will save a lot of time. I'm in no hurry to reload my Gentoo box as I'm very happy with it right now. You may want to wait until they release the final stable version in a few days if you're not in a huge hurry.

I did the alternative way that Dedpoet post how to do.
Instead of bootstrapping with gcc 2.96 i did mine with gcc 3.1 from the get go.

I installed the 1.3b gentoo, and it is built with gcc3.1.1 and is QT 3.0.5 Runs SEQ Fine =)
This from the Official Gentoo Distro FTP
Warning: the 1.3a_test and 1.3b_test directories contains experimental
stage tarballs which will build a gcc 3.1-only system from the ground up.. Use on own
risk!

Damn, how did you do it? I'm having the hardest time getting 1.3 to emerge KDE. Some dependency always fails. RIght now it is complaining about kdepim

Search for kdepim on the gentoo message boards. I had the same problem, and there are approx 5 different solutions available. Remember, searching is not just for ShowEQ.

LOL, and I had promised myself that I would never get ticketed by the search police :)
