1) For spells that have a target and that target dies (despawns) those spells should be removed from the spell window.
2) When zoning, if there are any spells targeting a player, the underlying player ID should be updated in the spell window so that it will correctly refresh the spells (usually buffs) when recast rather than creating another spell entry. This will prevent obsolete spell buff entries from hanging around in the spell window after zoning. Updating the ID should be legal since player names can be used to match the old ID with the new ID and player names are guaranteed to be unique.
3) When zoning, if any spell in the spell window has an NPC targeted, then that spell should be removed from the window. This suggestion may be a bit debatable... hmm.
4) When YOU die, all spells targeting you should be erased from the spell window.
5) If buff removal on yourself can be detected by the showeq client, then the matching spell in the spell window should be removed as well. Example: improved invisibility drops, so the spell should be removed from the spell window rather than hanging around for the full 10 minutes.
