I have not been able to get my new showeq station to work with any Xircom PCMCIA cards. Is this a promiscuous mode limitation with the Xircom cards or am I missing something in the configs.

If anyone has the make/model/version of PCMCIA card they are using successfully with showeq, I would be interested in hearing about it.

For the record, I am using Redhat 7.2, followed the install directions in this forum, with a NEC (non-cardbus) older portable. Not sure what the chipset is off the top of my head.

Thanks,
Joe

The vast majority of PCMCIA cards do not support promiscuous mode (actually, none of the ones i have tested do). Laptops with built in PCI ethernet adapters generally work.

i have a p2 233mhz w/ 48mb of ram that definatly supports promisc mode on its pcmcia adapter, as i have used it with seq. i will see if i can figure out the model# and stuff, but i didn't specifically seek it out for any linux/promisc compatibility.

I used a Xircom and an Intel PCMCIA NIC in my old P150 for SEQ. Worked fine. I think you might want to take a look at the other end of the wire (e.g. do you REALLY have a hub, or just a switch in disguise).

man tcpdump
tcpdump is your friend.

Hehe.. well, i guess lots of other peoples do.. I have tested with 2 3com's and one marked "Dell" (which is a 3com in disguise, i beleive), and they dont work. The built in on the same laptop works.. so, i guess its a crapshoot..

I have the hub/switch thing covered. I actually have an existing desktop that is running Linux/ShowEQ but I need to turn it back into a windows box.

If anyone has specific part numbers for the cards that work(non-cardbus), that would be great (CE3, CE2, CEM2, etc.)

Thanks,

--Blantant Bump--

I am looking for the part number of any PCMCIA card that works with ShowEQ. The only requirement is non-cardbus.
