configure: error: cannot find gdbm library functions. Make sure libgdbm is installed

I get this everytime I try to configure the darn thing can anyone help

As the error states, you don't have everything installed that you need. Read the FAQ and the install.newbies file.

Actually I do I am getting conflicts with the new download of GDBM. Running Mandrake 8.2 fully loaded. all files loaded. Thought it might be a older file but nope it is current. Tryed exporting the path still no go.

Well, to compile you need DEVEL stuff also installed.
