CPU usage 100%

Never had a problem runing SEQ before (the CPU usage would vary but never stay at 100%)

Im running SEQ on a p3 450 mhz with 512MB pc 100 memory. redhat 8.0 and not a dual boat.

Whats odd is that SEQ once it receives the decode and starts the backfill the CPU usage shoots up to 100% and stays there for about 2 minutes til the entire zone if processed. Never had a problem with that before. Also during the time that i am in the zone the CPU usage shoots up to 100% again and SEQ is frozen for a minute or two. I have verified its only SEQ that is drawing the processing capability.

Its very odd.. never had a problem with it decoding while still having the ability to have open CPU processing power.

Any suggestions? Should i just remove SEQ and start fresh? I am thinking perhaps i did too many compilations on it...

What version of QT is SEQ compiled against? What version of GCC was used?

You need to use QT version 2.3.2. RH 8 uses 3.05 which causes this problem. I know from first hand expierence.

So download QT 2.3.2 from Trolltech and compile.

i still have 3.05 but i went in and removed my usr/lib/seq directory alopng with the usr/local/share/showeq directory and redid all the cvs's and recompiled and it works perfect now.. pops up right as i zone :).. i will keep in mind the newer version update though.

Just to give you fair warning, I had done the same thing. But from what I gathered, QT 3.05 has some problems that causes ShowEQ to do that and it tends to just get worse. I had problems with zones not decoding and the cpu goign to 100% after two months of no issue's at all.

yup you are right... it worked smoothly for a while and then went to hell again...

I downloaded qt-gcc3-2.3.2-1 and qt-gcc3-devel-2.3.2-1 from azriel.trifocus.net after that and installed it in /usr/lib/seq file

then did
rpm -ivh qt-gcc3-2.3.2-1.i386.rpm qt-gcc3-devel-2.3.2-1.i386.rpm

Then i got the following error

error: Failed dependencies:
libstdc++.so.3 is needed by qt-gcc3-2.3.2-1
libstdc++.so.3 is needed by qt-gcc3-devel-2.3.2-1

Im a newbie so i dont know how get around the dependency error. i think someone said compile QT 2.3.2 but aren't i supposed to install first and then compile...

rpms are pre compiled binaries (usually). source is what you compile...

so grab a qt-2.3.2-free-somethingorother.tar.gz from ftp.trolltech.com and extract/compile it.

these are the only QT's i could find on trolltech that even come close to what your suggesting.. unless you have another link

so i take that and extract that to my /usr/local/qt file and them run a make (compile) on it right?

I'd recommend you read the INSTALL.newbies file that came with SEQ. Slowly, and several times.

i put mine in /usr/lib/qt2-gcc3, and yes the file was "File: qt-x11-2.3.2.tar.gz 8768 KB 11/05/2001 12:00:00 AM"

you would need to do a ./configure -thread (and check out the faq, it has a MUCH longer ./configure line that might make your seq more better), then you do the make.

got it :)

downloaded
qt-x11-2.3.2.tar.gz
unzipped it into a /usr/local/qt directory
then:
export QTDIR=$(pwd)
./configure -thread
make

(so far so good)

then:
export QTDIR=/usr/local/qt
then did the full cvs checkout and compiled and it finally recognized 2.3.2 instead of 3.0.5

yeah!
