yeah, each user can get at most $20. Only allowed to file 1 claim (no matter how much you bought) and if the amount to be paid to each claim drops below $5 (since the amount is determined by dividing the money by number of claimants), then we get nothing and it all goes to local charities (based on where claimants file from).

You are far, far better off going through the paperwork to REJECT the settlement and push it through court if you want to fuck the RIAA. This is actually a WIN for them - the don't get convicted of being monopolists and settle out of court for a FIXED sum of money independant of the number of people that claim the $20.

Unfortunately the RIAA is technically not a monopoly. What do they make, nothing. What do they control, nothing. They are a means for the various recording companies to have a single voice when representing their positions on things that are best left to the nebulous association.

What's really funny is how many people complain about things like what the RIAA says/does, yet continue to buy music from companies that are members of the association.

I have been searching all over the internet for another source of this information. Result: None I find it amazing that if this were a legitimate case a google search on the docket # would come up with more than this one site. I personally will not be giving out my personal information to an unknown entity and would ask that you watch who you give your private information to.

I had heard of the alligation about them price fixing about 2 years ago. Im glad that someone is actually acting on it.

The RIAA leaves a real bad taste in my mouth. The organization that is trying to stop people from stealing music is basically stealing from the people who are supporting the music industry (the consumer) by setting minimum prices that music companies can sell the music for.

I used to have a link that broke down how much profit is being made on the sale of each cd. It wasnt pretty. After all costs (including royalties to the artists and production costs) it only cost 7-10 cents per cd to cover all costs. That means that of a $21.95 cd, $21.85 cents of it is pure profit for the record company alone. No wonder it is a billion a year industry and no wonder last year was the one that made the most profit it ever has.

Im sure there are also some other factors that might not have been included in that cost list, like overstocking or possibly shipping costs. Then again it doesnt include the profits that are made from radio stations for playing music (yes all radio stations pay the music industry to play their music (and that is why Inet radio is almost dead cause they sued everyone to get their profit)).

Dont get me wrong. I think artists deserve to make money off of their music. Unfortunately most of the money doenst go to them, it goes to the music industry which I dont support.

how are you getting a number that low including royalties. To the best of my knowledge most artists get around $0.50 (split between group members) per CD sold and most of the $21.95 goes not to the record company, but to the middle-man distributors (something like 50-60%). I'll try to dig up the article that I saw these numbers on.

Found them I think:

american class action lawsuits are a joke. Just more money for lawyers. Millions when they win.

out of that 60-70mil in cash, How much are they getting? 1/2? 3/4?

And it says, if cash per person is $5 or under, IT all goes to no-profit or charity.

While those lawyers get to keep everything. How bout giving 1/2 of their monies to charity as well then.

What a joke.
