Hi all,
I recently upgraded my linux box so that it could be used as more than a router/firewall. So now that it has enough umpf to do somthing I got around to poking with showEQ. Looked neat and would be kool to see how the game functions.... <EU rambles on about life story >
So I get ShowEq with a little trouble but in the end fine. The real kicker seems to be finding the lib but on the third time I get that too with the correct Md5sums too. So in the end the Install went Great!! I too was supprized.
So I get EQ running on my Windoze box and then fire showeq on the Linux Box and we do see interaction but I keep getting errors expected #### only got ####. I assume this is due to the patches a few weeks ago that reduced the amount of bandwidth needed to run things. If so please post me some details.
Thanks.
ShowEQ version 4.3.5

Ok.. so, to all the people that have been saying that the message at the top of the front page, and bunches or posts about how ShowEQ isnt working will help.. Here is my proof.. There will always be people who post this crap over and over again without having the common decency to spend 2 minutes of their own time before wasting everyone elses...

For once, Jeeve's wrote a well-deserved flame. Without even looking, im guessing out of the 5 posts below this one, 3 (maybe 4) have to do with SEQ not working.

No, Bishop, it -is- the place. The problem is that ShowEQ is not currently working due to the recent patch. Take a look at the first page of posts in the exact forum you posted in. 6 of the posts, not including yours, have titles suggesting that it is not working properly. Almost all of the other topics evetually say it too. In some of the other forums there are even more such messages.
My advice is to check back here once a day or so. Check the forum called "Announcements." When the code is fixed and working, there will be a post there listing the date and the changes made. There always is, every time there is an update, without exception.

Bishop, don't get disheartened. You got your answer. Your errors are because of the recent patches. Be patient, and eventually ShowEQ will be working again. BTW, congrats on getting this far. You'll get a chance to learn how to update ShowEQ soon.
Regarding the response, you walked into a heated debate over whether or not we should coddle folks who post without first looking for the answer themselves, and you definitely gave a boost to the flamers' side of the debate. Perhaps you could offer a suggestion on how to stop the unreasonable number of redundant posts created by folks who don't look before they leap? What would have made you stop and think "Hey, maybe I should click the search button and find the answer myself."? Or is it truly hopeless as Jeeves believes?
Edit: Removed reference to "flames" and "colorful adjectives". Mr. S is right, they weren't appropriate.

What colorful adjectives?

Lyroschen, Hey I have an idea. Instead of having him offer up a suggestion -- And let me take a wild stab here and guess that it will be along the lines of "Well gee, there should be a sticky post at the top of the forums telling me in excruciating detail exactly what is wrong with my installation and just exactly how long it is going to be until someone comes to my house and fixes it for me" --- Maybe he should just shut up and read the forum before he posts more of what has already been posted. Maybe if he does that he might even find the SEARCH button. Maybe after a few days of it he will find the header on the Forum that tells him to use the SEARCH function. Maybe if he is extremely bright he might even use the SEARCH button.

WHY FLAMERS LIKE HIGH JEVES SUCK
-------------------------------------------------
During all ages there were people feeling superior to thers due to their knowledge. The wise man shares his knowledge with others, the idiot-morons try to keep their secrets and istead of telling others simple facts (very fast) they want others to waste their time by reading myriades of threads.
Thats because they themself needed a lot of time to collect their knowledge and are now jelous to all others, getting the same status very quickly without all the sweat, these flamers once invested for it.
Think about that.....
(BTW i was one of the guys using SEQ from the beginning, when it was very HARD to become Linux specialist, C specialist and SEQ Install specialist...hehe =)
Facts :
SEQ currently broken, some solutions are worked out right now to use it at least as GPS without decoding.
I think the development team waited for the most recent patch not to waste work, when next suck-Verant patch changes code again.
They will win....they are better....than...Sony Offline Interfrustration:p

I usually tend not to open my mouth much on these forums... but I feel I should speak up on this issue. Bishop, I think you need to learn read full pages of text, rather than skim around for the seemingly fast way to get your answers. Had you used the oh-so-loved search button, you would've received a bunch of hits about troubleshooting with SEQ. As was suggested, you could merely have read the topics of the posts in this forum. Even moreover, you could've clicked on a few of them and read even the opening post.
On the subject of what Talon said. Fuck off. High Jeeves deserves a bit more respect then that. He has on many occasions shared his knowledge. He IS superior(to most posting on the forums, at least with topics as repetitive[sp?] as this one) for his knowledge.(Knowledge is, after all, power) I think he just gets tired of retards(not commenting directly to you bishop, though yes, including you within that category) who post on things like this. I'd like to believe people aren't as stupid as they seem to be, but again, posts like this seem to prove there is very little intellect among the masses.
High Jeeves, keep doing what you're doing. Everyone else, don't give him shit for enforcing the use of that wonderful little thing called the Search button.

Its ok, manaweaver, Talon is just bitter because over half of his 14 posts are repeated questions that he gets flamed for (only one time by me, oddly enough, because he posted that ShowEQ wasnt decoded for him, at a time in Sept. when ShowEQ was broken...).. He is just somebody that cant do things for himself, and still hasnt leard the whole reading goes BEFORE posting thing..
To him, I suck because i dont spend my time helping people who dont bother to help themselves first... now, has he ever answered anyones questions on these forums? No. When has he ever posted here? Only when ShowEQ is broken. So, once the devs release a working version of ShowEQ, he will be gone again, never to come back until it is broken, and he needs somebody to help him again.

ACTULY HIGH JEEVS IS A FAG!!
Wow.. keep the mature and witty comebacks coming.. neither one of these two guys could even spell my name right..
seems that every 1 is a moron, and a noob, but him, every post he bitchs about something
Actually, this simply isnt true. There is no point arguing about it.. it is just plain false.
i think its cuz he use to be cool only on this forum place
Is this esperanto, or something?
but now every 1 has his knowledge and he has no use
Really? Then please, by all means.. you answer all the questions here.. Oh, wait.. you only have 14 posts also? 2 of which are questions answered in the FAQ, 1 of which is a flame (Where you call somebody a name, again..), and the rest of which are random comments that provide nothing to the community..
Once again, you will be gone once somebody hands you a working version of ShowEQ again, only to be back when you need your hand held through installation again..

How is anyone's sexual preference relevant in any manor to SEQ or the support thereof?
Referring to someone's sexual preference in a derogatory manor is a sure sign of an intolerant and ignorant mind.

I went back and read all your posts and you need to take yourself out of the "every 1" group.
I for one enjoy you posts high_jeeves and you don't need to take crap from the script kiddies who can't even RTFM.

The amount of wasted energy in this forum in a year could put a man on mars and back...
I am amazed at how patient the people who create and support ShowEQ are.
At least 80 % of the posts are variations of "When will it work" or of "I have no clue about XXX and I don’t want to try".
I have been using this amazing piece of software for almost 2 years and I check the forum often. I NEVER had to ask for help ! The FAQ and newbie install file alone got me out of almost all problem I had. I found all other answers by using the search button.
Peoples who don’t take the time to do this deserve to be flamed ! They waste the time of peoples who could be doing more fun and/or useful things.

You know I read this forum for over a year before I ever posted in it. Largely because after one day of reading it I said to myself "Self, if you post here your ignorance will show and people will flame your ass off." By lurking and searching I answered all of my myriad of questions thanks to the informative posts by Jeeves, Fee, Casey, Mr. Suspicious, S_B_R, Baelang, and all the other people that I am going to regret not having thought of when I have a moment to reflect on this post. I have never seen anyone flame an intelligent question on these boards.
Talon, If, as you say, you have been reading these boards for years one would almost think that in that time you might have learned to spell. Clearly not though.

Jeeves, dont even bother with this shit. It's these threads that waste the resources. Only ones I see calling names are the ones that keep asking the same questions over and over. Screw 'em - SEQ doesnt need more morons.
Maybe instead of crying over getting torched all the time, some should step back and figure out why. MOST flames are deserved. Moreover, those that have been here contributing should get more respect than this. -Glad I just wasted 5 minutes on this myself-

I find it amusing that all of the low count posters come out to defend high jeeves(in the 20s-50s range mostly... I think.) I think i remember seeing you in the IRC channel, but I don't get around that area too often... need to get a linux version up and going.
Heh, all of my stupid questions usually were answered in the INSTALL.newbies... HOWEVER, my install.newbies was, in the words of the devs, borked for a while... I don't really know what happened with my previous install of RH7.2 as it was a cooperative project with my friend(we both now have complete and working independant systems and don't need each other's help often anymore.) Now my installation is crisp and clean. Thanks to this program I've had more of an ambition to learn linux... the main stopping factor was confort... I'm confortable with windows... so why change?... now I'm just rambling... Keep it up high_jeeves! =)

There are more posts flaming people for duplicate posts than there are duplicate posts to begin with. This is not only childish, it is idiotic. Flaming has a small niche of usefulness, but it has totally gotten out of hand.
I think some people read the board now just so they can be the first person to flame someone. It's sad.

There are more posts flaming people for duplicate posts than
I ask again: What flames?
All I see here are helpfull people pointing someone cheerfully to the spot he can find the information he seeks: The Search feature. That AND... some individuals that actually insult and flame those people helping because they don't like the answer given to them.
