Ok guys, i just got Showeq installed and atm can not get it to work. I did read the FAQ's,
the boards, and used search but to no luck. I'm just getting back into Linux also so I'm
still quite rusty.

OS: Fedora Core 3
Latest Showeq version

Network Hookup:
<Cable Modem>------<Linksys Router>---------------<Linksys hub>------<EQ comp>
\-------<printer> \------<Showeq comp>

When Showeq boots up, no maps or any mobs come up. I pinged the machine running EQ and got good pings from it. To my knowledge it looks like Showeq is not seeing the packets at all, when i run tcpdump i get nada concerning EQ.

Here are some text from what i have looked at so far:

[root@localhost ~]# tcpdump
tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode
listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 96 bytes

[root@localhost ~]# cd /showeq
[root@localhost showeq]# showeq

Your Linksys hub is most likely not a hub at all, therefore your linux box will never see the EQ packets.

You need either a real hub (getting harder come by) or put you linux box in between your EQ box and your cable modem.

Went back and looked, the hub is a Linksys Etherfast 5-port autosensing hub(EFAH05W).
Every thing i see its just a normal hub have had it for around 3 yrs or so. Gonna look into
seeing how i can put linux box inbetween hub and eq machine also but would prefer to use
the way i got it hooked up now if at all possible.

That model is actually a switch. You *might* be able to get it to work if everything plugged into it is running either 10Mb or 100Mb (10Mb most likely to work).

All "hubs" that are 10/100 are a switch in one of two ways. 1) all ports are switched by the switching matrix indivually, in which case it won't work. 2) The switching matrix has a 10Mb plane and a 100Mb plane and ports are place on one plane or the other depending on the device. In this case, if all devices connected are running 10Mb, the switch matrix may not come into play and the 10Mb plane becomes a simple repeater (good thing for SEQ).

If you search on this topic you will find many many messages relating to it and some recommendations on true hubs that are still available.

Thanx for the help monstor69, didn't know that about some hubs. Going to go look
things up, and see where i can get, everything in my network excepr printer runs 100Mbit.

Got me a new hub and everything is good now, minus one thing. When i launch showeq,
and i type in the IP, showeq will attempt to get packets but nothing happens, i have to hit
monitor next client seen in order for it to work.

You also need to copy eqstr_us.txt and spells_us.txt to /usr/local/share/showeq/

Or use this bash script:

#!/bin/sh

USERAGENT="Sony Patcher"

for file in eqstr_us.txt spells_us.txt
do
echo "Retrieving $file..."
wget --user-agent="$USERAGENT" http://patch.everquest.com:7000/patch/everquest/main/$file.gz
gunzip $file.gz
if test -f /usr/local/share/showeq/$file
then
mv /usr/local/share/showeq/$file /usr/local/share/showeq/$file.old
fi
mv $file /usr/local/share/showeq/
done

Or if you run the debian packages version, you can install the showeq-contrib package.

If you have the showeq-contrib package installed, just reconfigure and it will download the latest eqstr and spells from Sony's patcher

% sudo dpkg-reconfigure showeq-contrib

I'd been wishing for that script for a while, but was to lazy to actually look. Thanks :)

That script has been floating around the forums for a while now...
