You don't have gcc and its components installed. Once you install it that should clear up THESE problems.

Correct. You need gcc. It sounds like you didn't install the development packages when you installed your distribution.

And don't apologize for posting information that is helpful in figuring out what is going on with your install. It may seem like a lot of information, but it may just contain what people need to know. Always opt for more information over less!

Ok I was buzzing along pretty good. Xandros has a real easy file library to search and install. ./compiling much further along than before when I get this:

I tried install --help. Light was not shed as far as I can tell..
I've searched Xandros' database and any installation that have libpcap are alreay installed

You need to install libpcap or pcap or whatever your distribution's package for pcap is called.

Unfortunately pcap_open_live is not a part of libpcap in Xandros Desktop OS.
This is a third party application and is not compatible with Xandros
Desktop OS.
